Statut d'entité inconnu - Unknown entity status

With the unknown entity status, quickly identify connected entities that cannot be reached during an incident involving a parent entity!

A new unknown entity status has been added to the alarm system! Canopsis applies this status when we can’t determine the status of a connected entity, because its direct parent is in a critical state (KO).

Each entity has one or more direct parents, registered in the system. This relationship is used to determine whether the status of an entity should become “Unknown”, depending on the status of the parent.

Unknown entity status use case

In the Alarm list, the unknown entity status will be represented as follows:

Alarm list and dependencies

This new unknown entity status therefore enables:

  • A clearer impact chain
    • Clearly identify that a problem on a parent entity prevents reliable evaluation of child entities.
    • Distinguish between real alarms and “side effects” linked to the unavailability of a critical component.
  • Reduced operational noise
    • Avoid false alarms or misinterpretations of the status of indirectly impacted entities.
    • Enable operations teams to focus on the root of the problem: the KO entity.
  • An improved diagnosis and resolution time
    • Quickly visualize the origin of a fault or abnormal behavior, thanks to the parent-child hierarchy and state dependencies.
    • Facilitate immediate understanding of the situation by explaining the situation to the parent and his or her status.
  • A consistent supervision/hypervision model
    • Better manage status propagation according to entity hierarchy.
    • Apply the same status evaluation rules, even if several entities are linked.
